Dortmund Players Rated From The 5-0 Win Over FC Köln

Here’s how the Borussia Dortmund players fared in the 5-0 demolition of FC Köln in the Bundesliga-

Burki- 6

Didn’t have anything much to do apart from saving from Lukas Klanter who robbed the ball off Zagadou very late in the game. The only thing he did was to receive back-passes and redistribute them as Koln didn’t have any decent shots on target.

Piszczek-6.5

Didn’t have anything to do defensively, but complimented the attack well and provided a decent attacking outlet on the right. His assist for Aubameyang was brilliant, though, as his inch-perfect pass was converted easily by the star striker.

Sokratis- 7

Solid game for the defender, who was forced to stay on his toes by the menacing John Cordoba. However, the BVB defender came out on top after numerous physical battles. Managed to score a goal just before the break which was controversially awarded by the VAR.

Toprak- 7.5

Excellent performance from the defender, who was composed and managed to keep an impenetrable defence even at a high line. His passing was superb while his vision was that of a world-class player tonight.

Zagadou- 6.5

Was confident in possession and supplemented the attack well on the left side. He could’ve had a flawless performance but for the 80th-minute incident when he was robbed off the ball and nearly gifted the opposition a goal.

Castro- 7

Hasn’t had a good couple of matches but today he was as good as he’s been in most matches this season. Orchestrated the midfield and made abundant chances for his attack. Often overrun the opponents’ attack as well.

Sahin- 5.5

Wasn’t as good and effective as Castro because most of his passes and long balls unusually went astray. Big blot on his outing was his failure to dominate a far inferior opponent. Won’t have many such games in the future as he surely has a lot more quality than he showed tonight.

Dahoud- 7

Has started looking like a regular first-teamer as he’s playing more consistently now. His positioning left a bit to be desired but his interceptions and pacey runs were key in unlocking opponent’s defence on more than one occasion. Created Philipp’s goal in the 69th minute after some fancy footwork.

Yarmolenko- 7.5

Looks like one of the signings of the summer that went under the radar. Things are now coming off for him and even though his home debut today lasted for just over an hour, he still managed to get an assist with his cross while his other pinpoint cross led to a penalty which was converted by Aubameyang.

Philipp- 8.5

This was for sure his best performance in a Dortmund shirt. Scored his first two goals for the club, with the first a header and the second one being a lob over the keeper. He was very dangerous to the opposition not only because of his goals but also because of his pacey and tricky runs down the left.

Aubameyang- 7.5

Didn’t have a great first half as his shots were off-target and he wasted possession in the penalty box twice when he could’ve scored. However, two goals in just under two minutes salvaged his otherwise ordinary performance.

SUBSTITUTES

Pulisic- 6

Was rested today by Bosz in favour of Yarmolenko, who he replaced in the 66th minute. Was unfortunate to not get on the scoresheet as his teammates ran riot against a hapless Cologne.

Weigl- 6

Timely boost for a Dortmund side on a busy schedule as he made his return from injury. Played for only 23 minutes and was unsurprisingly missing his sharpness. Will definitely need a couple of games more before he gets his mojo back.

Isak- NA

Came on too late to make an impact.
