What Is The Best Borussia Dortmund Can Hope For This Season?

We’re on the home straight and it is fair to say that the Bundesliga title is probably heading to Bavaria, with Bayern Munich, unbeaten in the competition so far this season currently leading the race at a canter.

However, it’s not too bad for Borussia Dortmund; six points ahead of joint-third-placed TSG Hoffenheim and VfB Stuttgart on 39 points currently.

Barring a major slip-up, they will make it through to the Champions League play-off round as well. Yes, they host Inter Milan, though they are capable of a point which would probably be enough. They didn’t do themselves any favours in their recent 2-0 defeat at Tottenham though.

They also gave a good account of themselves in their narrow third round 1-0 DFB Kopal defeat against Bayer Leverkusen which was realistically the club’s only chance of silverware this season.

A Champions League Shock Could Still Be In The Offing

Dortmund were unlikely semi-finalists last season and have proven to be effective in the Champions League over the last few years. They can certainly entertain.

While earlier in the season the team was leaking goals, they appear to have tightened up recently – at least in the league. Although winning the Champions League is highly unlikely, they have proven that they are capable of an upset but there are easily much better teams on paper.

Even reaching the quarter-final stage would be considered respectable considering their mixed run of form so far in the competition this season.

Concentrate On Looking Up

While they (and everyone else) are out of the title race this season, there is no harm in still going for it and, at least widening the gap between themselves and the clubs behind them. There would be no shame in finishing second this season; Bayern Munich have been in a different class.

Keeping hold of midfielder Felix Nmecha for the remainder of the January transfer window at least is key, with Chelsea reportedly chasing their star central midfielder, though they added the experienced Pascal Groß from Brighton a couple of weeks ago.

Making sure everyone stays fit and rested will also be essential. For professional footballers sleep is key and having the right kinds of beds and accessories like you can get at Simba Sleep certainly players being in the right condition could improve the club’s chances.

Barring a disaster, Dortmund should finish in a Champions League place in the Bundesliga this season – fans would probably love to beat Bayern Munich; which would probably make up for any other disappointment, like being knocked out of the DFB Pokal.

The summer will be interesting for them, in terms of who they sign and whether anyone leaves, however, what is clear is that they do need players that can make a difference next season. And, certainly in defence.

That is the main priority in the remaining games. Not conceding – or at least, keeping silly goals out and not losing concentration. For now though, the outlook is fairly positive; especially if they qualify for the next phase of the Champions League.
