Getting Borussia Dortmund Tickets

Looking over at German football with an English point of view, it can seem to be idyllic. Ok, so Bayern Munich appear to win the title every year and any time they don’t they then double-down on transfers in the summer to bounce back, but as far as supporters are concerned it is generally cheap to get tickets and you can have a beer in view of the pitch.
Given the fact that Premier League supporters aren’t allowed such a luxury, the temptation to visit can be overwhelming. The question is, how do you get tickets to see Dortmund play? This is a question a lot of you ask us through our contact form. Basically it isn’t that easy to get tickets but we will do our best to show you the various ways to go about it.
Buying Direct From the Club

If you’ve looked longingly at the Yellow Wall and think that heading to the Westfalenstadion in order to watch a match there would be the most exciting thing possible, the first thing that you’ll want to do is to head to Borussia Dortmund’s official website.
The club is more than aware of the fact that it has a large English-speaking fanbase, to say nothing of simply those who are looking on with curiosity and keen to head to Signal Iduna Park to watch a game live. As a result, the website is clear and nice and easy for you to navigate.
Ticket sales for Dortmund’s home games are essentially broken up into two sections, with the first being the pre-sale and the second being the Second ticket market.
Pre-Sale Tickets
When it comes to pre-sale tickets, BVB offer them around four to six weeks before the match in question. BVB Official Club Members get advance access to tickets between one and two days before that, so if you’re the sort of person who simply has to be able to watch a Dortmund game live then you might want to spend a little more to become a Member.
@onajourneytogether Going to a Borussia Dortmund game 🐝✅ We spontaneously went to Dortmund on our travels through Germany and decided to try our luck with getting tickets (the match was officially sold out) 🎫 So a few hours before the game we went to the stadium to try our luck 🍀 After going around the stadium a few times not finding anyone trustworthy with two tickets and hearing the fans starting to sing chants… we thought we were going to watch the game through the 📺 BUT one minute after the game started when we were just about to leave we found a guy that was selling two tickets for a very good price 🤩🙌🏼 We enjoyed the match SO much 🥹 this fans are something else, this is what football is all about! ♥️ TIPS: 1️⃣ If you are planning to go, it’s much more safe, cheaper and better to buy the tickets from the official Borussia Dortmund page 2️⃣ If you are there spontaneously before the match go to the ticket offices to see if they have some left before the match (they sell them pretty cheap) it’s a policy 3️⃣ There is a lot of people selling FAKE tickets. If you buy from someone in the street make sure he comes with you through security and entry to see that the tickets are valid. #borussiadortmund #bvb #footballgame #lastminute #tickets #verylucky #yellowwall #gelbewand #germanfootball #signalidunapark #hejabvb #breathtaking #adventure #travelgermany #dortmundcity #bvb09 #bvbarmy #bundesliga ♬ original sound – Anna & Sebastian | Travel
As an example from the 2024-2025 Bundesliga season, the home game against VfB Stuttgart that was due to take place on the eighth of February 2025 saw tickets go on sale to Members at midnight on the 16th of January.
Depending on the popularity of the game, you will be able to buy between two and six tickets per Member. If the away team doesn’t take up all of its allocation then the leftover tickets will be offered to neutrals as well as BVB supporters, so that can be a good way of getting a ticket for yourself and others.
Second Market
Dortmund say that the Second Market is there to offer ‘fair ticket distribution at fair prices’. This means that those of you hoping to be able to attend a Der BVB game who haven’t registered as an Official Member or were unable to get games through the pre-sale might be able to pick some up here. The entire point of the Second Market is to present supporters with a chance to buy tickets that might not otherwise have been available to them. If a season ticket holder can’t go, for example, their ticket would become available here.
The Second Market was developed by the club alongside both fans and the sponsorship department to make it the best option for getting hold of tickets outside of the usual sales process. If a supporter is unable to attend a game at the Westfalenstadion then they can legally sell their ticket this way and give someone else the chance to be there in their place. The Second Market becomes active a few days after the end of the official day ticket sale, with tickets costing the same as a normal ticket plus a 10% service fee.
It Isn’t Easy to Get Tickets
The one thing that it is important to realise is that it really isn’t all that easy to get tickets for a Borussia Dortmund game. Yes, Signal Iduna Park is a massive stadium and obviously the Yellow Wall allows for tens of thousands of supporters to all be in one place, but the club is one of the most popular in Germany. As a result, getting tickets can be difficult. That being said, those that are registered as Members and are either quick or lucky can find themselves on the end of tickets if they head to the sale as soon as it gets underway.
The point is that you shouldn’t be disheartened if you are unable to get tickets for a game at the first time of looking. The Second Market is there for you to look towards, but obviously getting two or more tickets together via that method will be tricky. Persistence can be key, as well as flexibility; if you only have one game that you can attend then you’re liable to miss out, but if there are several options available to you then you’ll have more chance of being able to find the ticket or tickets that you’re after.
Think About Ticket Re-Seller Sites
Whether you like it or not, and most sensible people will be firmly in the ‘not’ camp, re-seller sites are one of the most sure-fire ways of getting tickets for clubs like Borussia Dortmund. Unfortunately, you will have to pay well above the odds in order to do. Of course, whether that is worth your while will be entirely personal, as well as dependent on where you’re coming from. Someone who is used to paying through the nose for Arsenal tickets, for example, might well find it’s actually cheaper to go to see Dortmund even if you’re paying re-seller prices.
I am in Düsseldorf next weekend, we should be going to Monchengladbach. But I’ve just found tickets on Viagogo in the Dortmund yellow wall end for their game against Mainz. Price might be high but we could witness history. I might have to persuade @kaybhafc90 though. pic.twitter.com/X8rP7bBNEW

Similarly, American sports fans will know only too well how pricey it is to be able to get along and see the likes of an American football, baseball or basketball game, so the price on a re-seller site might seem reasonable. Generally, though, it will be an expense that stings. One of the best ways of seeing what makes the most sense is to price up the cost on a re-seller site compared to the cost of paying for an Official BVB Membership and a ticket. You will probably find that the latter remains cheaper than the former.
