Borussia Dortmund Eyeing Up Further Transfers

The Bundesliga season is now just over a week away, but Borussia Dortmund aren’t entirely happy with the squad that is available to manager Niko Kovač. As a result, it is likely that there may be one or two more faces arriving at the Wesfalenstadion before the window slams shut, as well as some departures as the Croatian works out who he wants to keep on the books and who is surplus to requirements.

Whether that will leave the team in a decent enough position to have a more impressive go at the Bundesliga title during the 2025-2026 campaign is something that remains to be seen.

The Players Want Sancho Back

Jadon Sancho may well have one of the most interesting careers of recent times. Having made it through the Watford Academy, Sancho transferred to Manchester City in 2015. He spent two years there but never broke into the first team, instead ending up with the Borussia Dortmund second team. He eventually did manage to play for the senior side, racking up more than 100 appearances and earning a reputation as one of the best young English players in the game. Wanted by everyone, he made the decision to move to a struggling Manchester United, failing to make a name for himself at Old Trafford.

From there, Sancho went on loan back to Der BVB for a time, then he went on another loan, this time to Chelsea. Now he is back with the Red Devils, but Dortmund players are reportedly lobbying the club to get him back to the Westfalenstadion as they believe that he could be a ‘difference-maker’. Some players just work well at certain clubs, which is why many feel that Dortmund and the Bundesliga could be the ideal pairing to get the best out of a player who is still only in his mid-twenties. Although the players are keen for the club to re-sign him, the boardroom remains unconvinced.

The Club Has Stepped Up Its Interest in Renato Veiga

When Borussia Dortmund played Juventus in a pre-season friendly, one of the things that no manager wants to see occurred: Niklas Sule hobbled off having torn his calf muscle. It means that the Black and Yellows are looking a bit short defensively, given the fact that Nico Schlotterbeck has yet to return from a serious knee injury. With the new Bundesliga season more like hours away than days, the club has to consider what it can do in order to avoid a full-blown injury crisis taking hold in the back line before a ball has even been kicked, with the transfer market looking like the way forward.

Sky Deutschland is reporting that the club are interested in a young defender from Argentina called Juan Giménez, a player for Rosario Central, who they have tracked for some time and who is being seen as a potential solution. He would also be available for relatively cheap, with an offer of between €5 and €8 million likely to earn his signature. Separate from that deal, there is also a chance that Der BVB might push to sign Renato Veiga from Chelsea, having previously shown interest in the versatile Portuguese defender during the January transfer window but failing to get a deal across the line.

No Silva Lining

For a time, it looked as though it was just a matter of dotting the Is and crossing the Ts for Fabio Silva’s move to Borussia Dortmund to go through. Now, though, the club has decided to walk away from the transfer after Wolverhampton Wanderers chose to up their price. Silva is not part of Wolves’ plan for the new season, but he did have an agreement in place for a transfer to the Westfalenstadion at the end of last season. It is claimed that the Wolves Sporting Director, Domenico Teti, refused to meet with representatives from the German club, which left Dortmund angry.

Given the fact that the Midlands side has made clear that there is no place for Silva in their squad for the forthcoming season, you would imagine that they would lower their asking price for the player. Instead, they have now put a €25 million asking price on his head, as well as wanting an extra €5 million in achievable add-ons. That makes it about €10 million more than the club had agreed to sell him for earlier in the summer, with Wolves believing that they can get something of an auction going for him as Roma and LB Leipzig are keen on his signature. They might, but it appears that Dortmund won’t be involved in it.
