The German transformed the club and restored it to its glory days, with his unique \u2018gegenpress\u2019 style producing something of a golden era for the \u2018Schwarzgelbe\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>When he arrived at Signal Iduna Park in 2008, the club had failed to finish inside the Bundesliga\u2019s top five places for the previous five seasons.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"J\u00fcrgen Klopp - Made in Bundesliga\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UaISWjBX5Sw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A far-cry from their best years under the great Ottmar Hitzfeld, who led BVB to their only UEFA Champions League title in 1997, Dortmund were in crisis and Klopp was the man to turn things around.<\/p>\n<p>The 2010-11 season saw the club win their first Bundesliga title since 2002. BVB\u2019s only points in their Champions League campaign came from draws with Cypriot side APOEL.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, despite a strong start in the Bundesliga, Bosz was sacked before the new year, with the club winless in eight league games, sitting 13 points behind league leaders Bayern in eighth place.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"stoger\">5. Hans Joachim Watzke, the Chief Executive Officer, cited the club&#39;s current sporting plight as the reason behind the decision. A Revierderby defeat at Schalke soon followed, as the club, who had been eliminated from the Europa League in the round of 16 by RB Salzburg, ended the season with a whimper.<\/p>\n<p>After a final day defeat to Hoffenheim, a third match winless, St\u00f6ger announced his imminent departure.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"rose\">4. Lucien Favre (2018-2020)<\/h2>\n<p><b>Duration of tenure: <\/b>2 years, 5 months, 12 days<\/p>\n<p><b>League finish(es): <\/b>2nd (2019), 2nd (2020)<\/p>\n<p><b>Honours: <\/b>DFL-Supercup (2019)<\/p>\n<p><b>Record: <\/b>P:110 &#8211; W:68 D:18 L:24<\/p>\n<p><b>Win percentage: <\/b>61.82%<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2725\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2725\" style=\"width: 531px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2725\" src=\"https:\/\/www.borussiadortmund.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/favre-1-e1678288529931-300x228.jpeg\" alt=\"Lucien Favre\" width=\"531\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.borussiadortmund.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/favre-1-e1678288529931-300x228.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.borussiadortmund.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/favre-1-e1678288529931.jpeg 683w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2725\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Photo: Flickr<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After an underwhelming year under the tutelage of Bosz and St\u00f6ger, another former Gladbach manager Lucien Favre came in to spark a change in fortunes.<\/p>\n<p>Achraf Hakimi was among the incomings in Favre\u2019s debut season, a year which saw BVB push their Bavarian rivals to the wire, finishing two points behind the eventual winners, while returning to the UCL knockouts.<\/p>\n<p>The following season, the Swiss facilitated the return of Mats Hummels, while also recruiting Julian Brandt and eventually Erling Haaland in the winter transfer window.<\/p>\n<p>Another second place finish followed, but the gap was much bigger, at 13 points, as the club failed to build on their Supercup win and another round of 16 exit from Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Although he secured the signature of Jude Bellingham the following summer, Favre couldn\u2019t get the better of Bayern in another Supercup clash, and though he led Dortmund through their UCL group, four losses in the opening 11 Bundesliga games was a far from ideal start.<\/p>\n<p>A 5-1 defeat to Stuttgart was the final nail in Favre\u2019s coffin as he was sacked in December 2020.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"terzic\">2. Edin Terzic (2020-2021, 2022-present)<\/h2>\n<p><b>Duration of tenure: <\/b>2020-2021: 6 months, 17 days, 2022-present: 9 months, 14 days*<\/p>\n<p><b>League finish(es): <\/b>3rd (2021)<\/p>\n<p><b>Honours: <\/b>DFB-Pokal (2021)<\/p>\n<p><b>Record: <\/b>P:65 &#8211; W:42 D:8 L:15<\/p>\n<p><b>Win percentage: <\/b>64.62%<\/p>\n<p>*At time of writing<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic at the 2012 DFB-Pokal final as a fan \ud83c\udfc6<\/p>\n<p>Then holding the trophy after winning it as Dortmund&#39;s manager \ud83d\udda4\ud83d\udc9b <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Wk3kFHNPA3\">pic.twitter.com\/Wk3kFHNPA3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; GOAL (@goal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/goal\/status\/1393590213771943945?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 15, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>As an active manager with not as much time at the helm as some of the other coaches in this list, it\u2019s hard to judge Edin Terzic\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n<p>However, the German boasts an impressive win percentage and track record.<\/p>\n<p>A lifelong BVB fan, Terzic knows what this club means to its devoted supporters; he brought belief and hope back to the club in both of his spells as boss.<\/p>\n<p>His first saw the club reach the UCL quarter-finals for the first time in four years, a Revierderby win, seven straight league wins to end that season, and of course, a Pokal title after a win over RB Leipzig in Berlin.<\/p>\n<p>This season, he has helped bring in the right players, adhering to the club\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n<p>Particularly since the World Cup, 10 straight wins while fighting on almost all fronts for silverware has certainly rekindled hope among the Yellow Wall.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps he\u2019ll top this list in a few months.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"tuchel\"><b><\/b>1. Thomas Tuchel (2015-2017)<\/h2>\n<p><b>Duration of tenure: <\/b>1 year, 10 months, 30 days<\/p>\n<p><b>League finish(es): <\/b>2nd (2016), 3rd (2017)<\/p>\n<p><b>Honours: <\/b>DFB-Pokal (2017)<\/p>\n<p><b>Record: <\/b>P:107 &#8211; W:67 D:23 L:17<\/p>\n<p><b>Win percentage: <\/b>62.6%<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2726\" src=\"https:\/\/www.borussiadortmund.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/tuchel-scaled-e1678288713744-300x240.jpeg\" alt=\"Thomas Tuchel\" width=\"543\" height=\"434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.borussiadortmund.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/tuchel-scaled-e1678288713744-300x240.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.borussiadortmund.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/tuchel-scaled-e1678288713744-1024x819.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.borussiadortmund.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/tuchel-scaled-e1678288713744-768x614.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.borussiadortmund.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/tuchel-scaled-e1678288713744-1536x1229.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.borussiadortmund.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/tuchel-scaled-e1678288713744-2048x1638.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But for now, this ranking is topped by Thomas Tuchel, a man who took the same path as his predecessor, coming from Mainz in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>With the club having finished in seventh place in the 2014-15 season, Tuchel came in to pick up the pieces and maintain the identity Klopp had built at Signal Iduna Park.<\/p>\n<p>In his debut year, the German led BVB to a strong Bundesliga campaign, which ended with the club on 78 points, closer to the title winners from Munich than to third place.<\/p>\n<p>That year the club also reached the Pokal final, where Bayern needed penalties to trump their rivals again.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile in Europe an Anfield classic saw Klopp\u2019s new side Liverpool eliminate his former employers from the Europa League quarter-finals.<\/p>\n<p>An extremely promising first term was built upon by Tuchel.
