Dortmund Players Rated from the 1-1 Draw against APOEL

Here’s how the Borussia Dortmund players fared in the 1-1 draw against APOEL in their UEFA Champions League group game-

Burki- 5

Had a below average game as he did not make any crucial save. Could’ve done better for APOEL’s goal, but had to pick the ball out of his own net for the fourth consecutive time in the Champions League this season already.

Bartra- 4.5

Has been filling in for the injured Piszczek at right-back since the last international break but has still struggled. Was found out of position many times as he was time and again found further up the field.

Sokratis- 5

Didn’t make any major errors but could’ve surely done better for the goal. Didn’t have any partner available for receiving vertical passes and was visibly frustrated.

Toprak- 5

Only positive point was that he returned from an injury which had sidelined for a couple of weeks. Did nothing of note and was constantly troubled by APOEL’s swift counter-attacks.

Guerreiro- 7

Borussia Dortmund’s best player on the pitch by a mile. Brilliant performance on his first Champions League start since return from injury and his daunting, quick runs from the left meant that he opened the scoring with a sweetly struck shot.

Kagawa- 5.5

Created the opening goal in the 29th minute with a pass into the space between the centre-backs for Guerreiro to put away. Did nothing much of note apart from that, and could’ve surely done better to help create some more chances.

Weigl- 5

Solid at his favourite Defensive Midfield position and his quick pass reached Kagawa who set it up for Guerreiro. Could’ve contributed more to attack as his side dominated position but surprisingly stayed deep inside his half.

Gotze- 4.5

Invisible for the majority of the match. The APOEL manager’s tactic of strictly man-marking the German paid off.

Pulisic- 4.5

Peter Bosz’s side certainly missed his quick runs and skilful dribbling down the right. Was always surrounded with opposition players which meant that he wasn’t too involved in the game.

Philipp- 5.5

Made a superb interception in the first half and made a few good runs which unfortunately came to nothing. His cross in the second half turned into a shot and was well saved by the opposition goalkeeper.

Aubameyang- 4

His poor form has coincided with a poor run for his side. Needs to be either dropped or find his swagger back otherwise this season could become even worse for his side.

SUBSTITUTES

Yarmolenko- 4

Replaced Philipp after the hour mark but didn’t do anything of note at all.

Schmelzer- NA

Replaced Guerreiro with a few minutes remaining but was nowhere as good as the Portuguese.

Schurrle- NA

Came on too late to make an impact.

Subs Not Used

Weidenfeller, Sahin, Castro, Isak.
