Dortmund Players Rated from the 2-2 Draw with Frankfurt

Here’s how the Borussia Dortmund players fared in the 2-2 draw with Frankfurt in the Bundesliga-

Burki- 6

The keeper, who recently signed a contract extension, made some fine saves in the first half to keep his side in the game. However, he undid his great work by conceding a penalty by bringing down Ante Rebic, after the striker was left alone by the defence.

Bartra- 6

Fielded at right back again and put in a decent enough performance. Made some key interceptions but was shifted to centre-back after Weigl was subbed off at the hour mark. His deflected shot fell to Sahin who scored the opener, but the defender was lucky to have not been sent off after a rash challenge in stoppage time.

Weigl- 5.5

Was strangely started at centre-back by Peter Bosz. Wasn’t physically imposing and his poor positioning made him an easy prey for the Frankfurt attackers. Was subbed off at the hour mark as Bosz tried to protect the lead, but ironically, Frankfurt scored two goals in just ten minutes after he was substituted.

Subotic- 6

Was off-pace and struggled with the tempo of the game at times but that was unsurprising since it was his first appearance this season. Put in an assured performance and was composed when in possession of the ball.

Toljan- 5

Hasn’t put in convincing performances but that’s partly down to Bosz who has rotated him so often. After a poor outing in the midweek at right back, Toljan was started at the left and just when he started looking solid after a shaky display in the first half, he was again shifted to the right as Zagadou was introduced late on.

Sahin- 6.5

Scored his second goal of the season after Bartra’s deflected shot fell at his feet. Could’ve even won the game for his side but his late effort was cleared off the line. A solid performance overall as he made many defence-splitting passes, something he does not usually do.

Castro- 4.5

Looked off the pace and short of confidence as even some of his short passes were misplaced, let alone his through balls and long passes. Below-par display meant that he was hauled off at half-time. Does not deserve to start the next game.

Gotze- 7.5

Was Dortmund’s best player of the game, as he played with a lot of confidence and made abundant chances on his 100th league game for Dortmund. Pushed a lot for the winner and his ambitious late through ball for Auba was somehow cleared by the Frankfurt defence.

Philipp- 7

Exciting runs didn’t lead to anything, but he did manage to score his side’s second goal. Was replaced by Sancho with barely 7 minutes on the clock.

Pulisic- 5

Spurred a glorious chance as his shot was well saved just moments after Frankfurt’s first goal. Is going through a bad spell right now but it’s only a matter of time before he’s back among the goals.

Aubameyang- 4.5

Failed to beat the keeper twice as he scored blank for the third time in his last four games. Wasn’t at his best but that was largely because of inadequate service provided by his teammates.

SUBSTITUTES

Kagawa- 6

Couldn’t help his team score the winning goal. Even though he wasn’t exactly poor, he shouldn’t have come on in the first place as Bosz should’ve brought on a defensive player to protect a two-goal lead.

Zagadou- 6

Didn’t make any major mistake but could’ve been better as his side squandered a two-goal lead in just ten minutes.

Sancho- NA

Made his well-awaited debut, but came on too late to make an impact. Should’ve scored late on but his shot was easily stopped and Sahin missed from the rebound.

Subs Not Used– Weidenfeller, Yarmolenko, Isak, Larsen.
