Young Players that Dortmund should retain in the Transfer Window

Borussia Dortmund are known across Europe as a side that nurtures youngsters and turns them into superstars. It is undoubtedly one of the best German clubs where an up-and-coming young player can develop. Over the last few years, BVB have recruited promising youngsters who haven’t made their professional breakthrough but there are the big players like Mario Götze, Robert Lewandowski, Christian Pulisic and Nuri Sahin who were signed by Dortmund at a very young age. The current Dortmund squad is full of youngsters with great potential and with them BVB have had an amazing season. But like always, bigger and richer clubs may sign them. Therefore, Dortmund need to retain their young blood for The Yellow Wall to enjoy.

Erling Haaland

This is a no-brainer. Erling Haaland has stormed into the football world at just 19 years of age. The Norwegian striker proved to be clinical for RB Salzburg in the Champions League as well as the domestic league before he was signed by Dortmund for €22.5m. Haaland scored a hat-trick in 23 minutes in his debut as a BVB player in the Bundesliga. He has scored 40 goals and has had 9 assists in just 33 appearances. He is an absolute goal machine. His contract for BVB is for four-and-a-half years which also has a release clause that will be activated when the transfer window opens. He is still far from his peak and it would be of immense value to the club if Dortmund can hold on to him.

Giovanni Reyna

17-year-old Reyna scored his first goal for BVB in the DFB Cup quarterfinals against Werder Bremen. His role is that of Attacking Midfielder. His ability to run at top pace for extended periods, breaking into the other half and banging in goals has been praised by many legends. He is also dangerous as a free-kick taker. The American scored 9 goals and had 9 assists in 27 appearances for Borussia Dortmund. Giovanni is also blessed with a keen eye for the killer pass. Due to his abilities as an attacking midfielder, he was compared to a young Kaka by Patrick Vieira. Retaining him will be highly advantageous as he increases the danger that BVB’s attack poses to their opposition.

Jadon Sancho

Sancho is probably the best young prodigy in the world at this moment. The English forward moved to BVB from Manchester City on a free transfer. Many big English clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea have shown interest in Sancho. At just 20 years of age, he is taking his game to new heights. Sancho has been involved in 36 goals this season-17 goals and 19 assists. Only De Bruyne and Muller have more assists than him in Europe’s top 5 leagues. He can leave defenders clueless as he is capable of dribbling with both feet. Although it could be difficult for Dortmund to retain Sancho at the end of the season, they will be trying their best nonetheless as his talent and onfield contribution will only get better with age and experience.

Borussia Dortmund were eliminated in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 by PSG. Before Bundesliga matches were suspended, BVB were just 4 points behind league leaders and rivals Bayern Munich. If BVB wants to continue the good run that it has enjoyed this season retaining these players would be in the very best interests of this legendary club.
